As the roof forms emerge from the ridge and move organically across the site, the design blurs traditional distinctions between the landscape and architecture.
The Epic Diamond residence mediates between the natural hillside overlooking the Telluride Valley and the Mountain Village Core below. Its sensitive design traverses the steep slope and rocky ridge like a mountain trail to minimize environmental disturbance. A rich planting palette emphasizes the seasonality of alpine meadows, with a base of two native grass mixes. Emerging from the hillside, the roof garden plantings include purple perennials species that bloom in the early spring and fall.
The waterfall feature at the bridge draws inspiration from mountain springs, as we cut into the bedrock it exposes a spring of water that cascades down the boulder wall into a pool, setting into motion a series of stepped rock formations below. From this water, a microclimate in the central area of the site comes alive with intense bright red blooms starting in late spring after the snow is melted, bringing focus to different areas of the landscape during different seasons.
