Surveying and projecting new life on seasonal livestock ponds in the Alps
Considering the role of water in the high alpine zone of the Val Taleggio, this project explored the role of the “laac” livestock ponds utilized for cattle grazing for hundreds of years. Fieldwork during a residency with The Nature, Art and Habitat Foundation generated a survey of the laacs, documenting the unique ecologies and small scale associations between humans, animals, plans and hydrology. The project included speculative designs, projecting new life into the ponds, given the increasingly recreational alpine region and in the context of climate change.
