Reconnecting to a public urban oasis
One Greenway is a 345-unit housing development at the southern end of the Rose Kennedy Greenway on the Eastern side of Boston’s Chinatown. Part of wave of infill development to follow the removal of the above-grade highway, the project relinks a once-disconnected part of the community from downtown Boston.
The design extends the larger public reach of the Greenway and provides an outdoor refuge for building residents and a much-needed park space for local neighbors. In addition to the surrounding streetscapes of Hudson, Albany and Kneeland Streets, the centerpiece of the design is a central public garden that incorporates moveable seating, a common deck space, and an accessible garden walkway that negotiates the 20 foot grade change from east to west.
