A communal outdoor living room
Imagined as a domesticated foil to the neighboring High Prairie Park, Periwinkle Park is the front yard to over 20 homeowners in the new neighborhood of Painted Prairie. At the intersection of the site, the park provides a central gathering space, replete with shade pavilions, BBQ grills and an oversized concrete coffee table/impromptu stage around which to gather. Numerous picnic tables, chairs and retro gliders offer ample opportunity to contemplate the majestic mountain views.
A gently sloping play lawn draws the eye west to terraced seat stairs and rolling hummocks. To the east, shade trees and a sand play zone allow for peaceful rest and play. White concrete pebble steppers act as visual breadcrumbs throughout the community, drawing neighbors from all around. And the flanking garden walks, intensely planted with brilliant xeric spices, provide dramatic color, texture and habitat throughout the season.
